5 FREE things to do in Golden, BC this SUMMER/FALL

Welcome to Humble Tattoo Company! We're pretty new to Golden, having moved here in 2021, so we're still tourists ourselves. We’ve loved becoming a part of this community and embracing the countless outdoor activities available during the warmer weather. With living costs being pretty high here in BC, we love to take advantage of free activities. Here are our top five free things to do this summer in Golden:

The Rotary Trail Loop

Golden’s Rotary Trail Loop is an easy way to explore the nature that the Kootenays have to offer without venturing from town. This trail system winds through the town, encompassing the best parts of nature in one trail. It runs through the forest, along the kicking horse river and even through a Disc Golf Course! We often walk sections of this trail on our morning dog walk. We love the Forest section behind Golden Municipal Campground & RV Park, it feels like a fairytale when the sun hits the trees just right! For a great family activity, try a game of disc golf on the shaded part of the trail—perfect for escaping the heat on those super hot days.

Cedar Lake

A short drive away, Cedar Lake is a mountain lake worth the trip! This picturesque spot is ideal for a day out with family and friends. The lake is relatively warm and perfect for swimming, with a dock for jumping off, a beach area, and a boat launch for paddleboards. A quick drive up Kicking Horse Trail will lead you to this serene escape.

Farmers Market

Every Wednesday during the summer (until September 25th!) , Spirit Square hosts the Farmers Market from 10AM- 3PM, a vibrant event where you can stroll through and check out local vendors. Enjoy live music, face painting for kids, and a variety of local produce and goodies. Some must-visits include Mushroom Will, who knows everything about mushrooms; Mamacita’s Empanadas for handmade deliciousness; and Blaeberry Fire for amazing-smelling candles.

Hit the Skate Park

Golden's skatepark just got a huge facelift, making it one of the must-visit spots this summer. Thanks to the efforts of the Golden Skateboard Association (GSA), the skatepark has expanded and now offers an even more engaging and welcoming environment. Whether you're a seasoned skater or just starting out, the park's new layout is perfect for beginners and pros alike. The vibes here are all about community—kids, families, and adults are coming together to share the stoke! Humble Tattoo Co. was proud to support the GSA's fundraising efforts with a flash day event, helping to make this revitalized park a reality. So grab your board and come experience the new Golden skatepark for yourself!

Take a drive up Mount 7

For an unforgettable adventure, take a drive up Mount 7. You’ll need a good car for the slow 13km trek up a gravelly, dusty road, but the journey is worth it. Keep an eye out for wildlife like foxes and black bears along the way. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with magical mountain views as far as the eye can see!

Golden is full of amazing free activities that will make your summer memorable. And if you want a permanent reminder of your adventures in this beautiful town, why not get a tattoo? Visit us at Humble Tattoo Company to commemorate your experiences with a unique piece of art. We’d love to help you make your memories last a lifetime!
